Online first aid courses

Chile requires employers to guarantee immediate, adequate access to first aid under Supreme Decree DS 594, with a mandatory Joint Hygiene and Safety Committee from 25 workers (DS 54), all framed by Law No. 16,744 on occupational accidents. There is no fixed numeric ratio of first-aiders, and training is usually delivered via an emergency-brigade course (CPR, AED, fire).

Nursery rooms and kindergartens under JUNJI and the Integra Foundation must, per the Integral Safety Plan (PISE) and their internal regulations, have first-aid-trained staff and emergency protocols, overseen by the Superintendency of Early Childhood Education (MINEDUC). Law 21156 additionally mandates AEDs in high-attendance establishments, and certification is renewed every two years.

Chilean law recognises a duty to rescue under Article 494 No. 14 of the Criminal Code ("omisión de socorro"), a misdemeanour (falta) that applies only when a person in an unpopulated place fails to help someone in danger where it can be done without detriment to oneself. Failure to assist is punishable by a fine of 1 to 4 UTM.

In Chile, individual health providers register with the Superintendencia de Salud and Colegio de Enfermeras membership has been voluntary since 1981, so for general practice there are no mandatory continuing-education credits — certification/recertification through the Superintendencia applies to keeping a specialty current. Keeping competencies (including basic life support and CPR) up to date remains a professional expectation and is often an employer requirement, met by any recognized continuing-education activity such as CPR/AED or ACLS.

Long-Stay Establishments for Older Adults (ELEAM), governed by the ELEAM Regulation (MINSAL Decree No. 14/2010, updated by Decree No. 20/2022) and authorized by the SEREMI de Salud, must have staff trained in first aid and CPR able to intervene immediately. The SEREMI values first-aid certification and recognizes SENCE-accredited CPR/AED courses (NCh2728:2015), which have no prerequisites, and the certificate is renewed periodically.

Chile's Programa de Familias de Acogida Especializada, run by the Servicio Nacional de Protección Especializada a la Niñez y Adolescencia, provides first-aid training to families through the programme's health professional (a nurse), so no external certificate is required. First-aid and CPR training is in addition to the suitability assessment and caregiving skills, and should be kept current.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Chile: the law requires worker instruction and training without mandating an in-person format, and the Law 16,744 administering bodies deliver both in-person and remote training. This is a grey zone that is accepted, with a 3-year certification validity.
